:
Leadership styles are complemented with structural empowerment; it has been positively related to structural empowerment because the leaders empowering behaviors were linked empirically to factors influencing staff nurses responses to their work environment such as participative management, which in turn increases the level of their commitment and involvement in the achievement of organizational goal. The Aim of the study was to identify the relationship between the various types of leadership styles of the nurse managers and the nurses’ structural empowerment at two Saudi governmental hospitals. In this study, a descriptive correlational design was used. A stratified random sampling with specific demographic attributes of staff nurses were selected to complete the Conditions of Work Effectiveness Questionnaire II (CWEQ-II) aimed to measure structural empowerment and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ form -5X short) aimed to measure the leadership style. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS version 22 using descriptive statistics on both study variables. Correlation analysis was used to test the relationship between leadership style of unit nurse manager and structural empowerment of the staff nurse. Findings of the study indicated that the leadership style of the nurse manager and the structural empowerment of the staff nurse were positively related. Additionally, no significant relationship was found between the study participants demographic data and the structural empowerment of the staff nurse and the leadership style of the nurse manager when correlated except for the nursing degree, hospital, and working unit were found to be significantly related to both study variables. The study recommended that nursing leaders should adopt and support motivating and empowering leadership styles such as transformational style as a strategy to resolve the global nursing shortage in health care services. As structurally empowered nurses will feel motivated and more committed to retain in their job.
