Abstract
:
This research study is based on a sequential explanatory, mixed methods non-experimental research design, was conducted at four female technical colleges in Saudi Arabia. The study investigated the perception of the teachers on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with Blended Learning (BL) study mode at Saudi EFL tertiary level classrooms. In addition, the study explored pros and cons the teachers perceive in implementing the use of BL in TVTC. The mix-methods approach was adopted in the data collection as well as the data analysis processes. The quantitative data was gathered from the teachers' responses to a custom designed, forty-one items on a five-point Likert scale questionnaire, which aimed at exploring their perceptions of BL in their classrooms. The quantitative data was later statistically analysed using the Statistical package for Social Sciences software (IBM SPSS Statistics 22®). On the other hand, the qualitative data was gathered via semi structured interviews. The recorded audio interviews were transcribed verbatim and later analysed for emergent codes using open coding and eventually forming overarching themes. The overall population of the teacher participants in the quantitative data in this study was fifteen teachers and in the qualitative part, were six teachers interviewed. The findings of the study indicated that the they are all keen on utilising ICT in the BL teaching mode. It has also been found that while teachers endorsed BL, they voiced some concerns and reservations regarding certain issues such as students’ disengagement, technical issues, and time. Based on the findings of this study, suggestions are made about the use of BL on a large scale and various tertiary institutions in KSA and possible investigations in future research. Keywords: ICT, Blended Learning (BL), Saudi EFL context, classrooms, mixed methods, perception
