Abstract
:
This study aimed at revealing the role that five major factors of personality and their relation to marital satisfaction among Saudi married women. To achieve this goal, the comparative descriptive approach was used. The study sample consisted of (101) Saudi married women in Jeddah, aged between 17 to more than 32 years. Sample selection done using the purposive sample was selected to achieve the study objectives and the researcher was used the five major factors of personality scale prepared by and McCrae,1992 Costa by the researcher and "Marital Satisfaction" scale by Walter W.Hudson 1982 To analyze the results, the researcher adopted the following statistical methods: Frequencies and Percentages, Arithmetic Mean, Standard Deviation, Alpha-Cronbach Coefficient, Split Half Reliability, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, T Test for Two Independent Samples, Variance Analysis T- Test and Multiple Linear Regression. The main results of the study were: There are statistically significant differences between marital satisfaction due to differences in age at marriage, marriage duration, economic level, Educational level and the Number of children and There are no statistically significant differences between the high and low marital satisfaction and the degree of extroversion in the study sample. Based on these findings, the researcher recommended the following: There is a positive correlation (positive) between the scores of the list of big five major factors of personality dimensions and the overall score on the scale of marital satisfaction. There are no differences between the mean of the five major factors of personality according to the variables (age level - educational level, marital status, economic level. There are differences in the list of big five major factors of personality according to the number of children. There are differences in marital satisfaction according to age - educational level, economic level and number of children. In the light of the results of the study the researcher recommends to work on the development of counseling programs and awareness of the causes of marital satisfaction, and focus on personality traits at the same time because the results proved a large correlation between the two.
