Abstract
:
The present study aimed to investigate the degree of pre-school teachers' awareness of giftedness' indicators for pre-school children in Jeddah. It adopted the descriptive analytical approach and applied a two-section questionnaire to (306) randomly selected pre-school teachers. While the first section covered the preliminary data of the participants, the second one comprised two domains; a 22-item domain to evaluate the degree of awareness of giftedness' personal indicators and a 22-item domain to evaluate the degree of awareness of giftedness' cognitive (intellectual) indicators. To analyze the quantitative collected data, arithmetic means, standard deviations, and percentages were utilized. Moreover, t-test was utilized to determine the differences among the participants. Results revealed that the degree of awareness of giftedness' personal and cognitive (intellectual) indicators was generally high. There were statistically significant differences between the means in the awareness' degrees of public and private pre-school teachers in favor of public ones. The study recommended providing services of identification and care for the gifted children in pre-school. Additionally, the pre-school n teachers should periodically attend awareness programs of giftedness care in pre-school. Further research studies should cover the identification and care of the gifted at pre-school.
