Abstract
:
Stimulatory effect of Garden cress seeds on Osteogenesis after Induced-bone Fracture By Fatimah ahmed alharbi Supervised By: Dr. Mohamed Kamel Abo-Golayel Background: Garden cress (GCS) is utilized in Arabian region for accelerating fracture healing. This study aimed to evaluate the role of garden cress seeds (GCS) in osteogenic enhancement in bone fractures induced in rabbits. Methods: Six groups of New Zealand White rabbits were included in this study. Group-A (n=15) was divided equally into 3 subgroups (A1, A2 and A3). Rabbits of A1 served as negative control and rabbits of A2 & A3 were fed daily on standard pellet diets supplemented with 6 & 12 grams of GCS respectively. Group-B (n=15); rabbits were induced transverse diaphyseal fractures of the left femurs and subdivided into 3 subgroups (B1, B2 and B3). Group B1 were left for spontaneous healing while B2 & B3 were supplemented 6 gm and 12 gm GCS given daily respectively. Results: The serum levels of Vit. D in fractured femur rabbits fed on 6 gm GCS at 2nd & 3rd and on 12 gm GCS at 3rd showed significant increase (P) compared to those of untreated fractured femur of the study. The serum level of Ca in fractured femur rabbits fed on both 6,12gm GCS at 3rd showed significant increase (P) compared to those of untreated fractured femur of the study. The serum levels of LTF fed on 6 gm showed Significant increase (P) at the end of 3rd, And in fractured femur rabbits fed on 12 gm GCS showed significant increase (P) at the end of the2nd and 3rd phases compared to those of untreated fractured femur of the study. The serum level of PTH fed on 6 gm showed significant decrease (P) at the end of 3rd phase of the study. The serum level of OPN on 6 gm GCS at 2nd phase showed significant increase (P) compared to those of untreated fractured femur of the study. Histomorphometric evaluation showed marked improvement of fractured femur rabbits fed on 6 & 12 gm of GCS as compared to those of untreated fractured
