Abstract
:
The purpose of this study is to examine the status of Nursing research productivity in three Saudi public universities namely; King Saud University, King Abdul-Aziz University, and Umm Al-Qura University covering several areas of concern including; Individual, Institutional and Leadership Characteristics. This is crucial to bring basis of what we have and improve the research climate within nursing school. A quantitative approach was used, and a web survey was sent to the three universities’ faculty. A sample of 56 faculty from the three universities responded to the questionnaire. A simple descriptive statistic was used whereas an independent t-test and One-way ANOVA to find the Relationships between two group. There are some factors in one institution and not in the other that helped faculty to be productive. Findings revealed that extrinsic motivation and work habits from the Individual Characteristics, and clear coordinating goals for research and mentoring and sufficient work time and teaching from the Institutional Characteristics were rated as highly determinant for the faculty research productivity. As such, decision makers need to carefully assess their institution research practices and establish suitable policies that would help in making necessary changes to increase faculty research productivity. This way, there will be a tremendous increase in research publications, and this means the number of faculty members involved in research will also be high.
