Abstract
:
This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using two e-learning tools (smart virtual classes and discussion rooms) in developing students’ critical thinking skills (namely interpretation, deduction, and inference), when teaching the family education curriculum. This study is quasi-experimental study, it's sample (180 students) was selected intentionally, and divided into two groups; experimental (87) students and (93) students control. An achievement test was prepared to evaluate the participants’ critical thinking skills. This test is based on the Arabic version of the Short-Form of the Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (WGCTA-SF). The e-learning method integrated into traditional education employing Classera smart virtual classrooms and discussion rooms was used in teaching lessons to the experimental group, while the control group, was taught using the traditional way. Pre- and post-tests were given to the students in the two groups to evaluate their critical thinking skills. This study demonstrated statistically significant differences between the means of the scores attained by the experimental group in the pre- and post-tests evaluating students’ critical thinking skills in favor of the post-test. There were no statistically significant differences between the means of the scores attained by the control group in the pre- and post-test. And there were statistically significant differences between the means of the scores attained by the two groups in the post-test, and in the test as a whole in favor of the experimental group. That’s shows the positive effectiveness of using smart virtual classes and discussion rooms as e-learning tools in developing the critical thinking skills of students learning the family education curriculum. The researcher recommends that those responsible for developing e-learning systems in the Ministry of Education design and add a new icon to such tools. And recommends School leaders to ensure that methods of e-learning are appropriately integrated into the educational process.
